HOPE BARRIE
INSPIRING, EQUIPPING, & EMPOWERING
YOU TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
OUR VISION
We exist to help you to help others who are experiencing need.
Our mission is to help people to become everything that God created them to be. Together.
We're not a single mission;
We're a Missional Movement.
We're not about programmes; we're about people.
We're not about events; we're about community.
We're not about missions TO; we're about movement AMONG.

OUR COMMUNITY
We connect individuals, groups, churches, and organizations in Hope-full community.
OUR VALUES
Dignity of Every Person.
Helping without Hurting.
Empowering People.
Meeting Chronic Needs with Solutions.
Belonging & Community.
Holistic Support: Spiritual, Emotional, Mental, Relational, Physical, Resourceful.
... and these are just the beginning!

We believe that the vast majority of efforts to engage poverty issues are limited to relief efforts only, targeting chronic needs with the wrong crisis solutions, which disempower people and marginalize them further.
There's a more effective way.

We provide RELIEF when necessary, & we Focus on REHABILATION & DEVELOPMENT of the whole person.
Watch the brief "Poverty to Possibility" Video of our Executive Director presenting some of our fundamental principles of poverty engagement.

CURRENT INITIATIVES
We have a vision for a larger, collaborate community space to house support & community groups, social enterprise initiatives, the cafe, and more.
We're better when we're together!
We are always open to connecting with community partners who share our values. Contact Us if you're interested in having a collaborative conversation!
In the meantime, below are our current operations:
The Hope Centre
34 Mary Street, Downtown Barrie
This is our base of operations. The Hope Centre is a safe and inviting space for people to gather, to participate in programming, and to receive assistance.
Supports include Counselling, Grocery Assistance, a Meal Programme, and Support Groups for Mental Health Support and Addiction Recovery, from a Gospel-driven perspective.
Higher Grounds Coffee House
Non-Profit, Social Enterprise with a Higher Calling.
Higher Grounds Coffee House exists for three reasons, in this order of priority:
-
The "Stepping Stones" Mentorship Programme, providing essential job and job-related skills to marginalized and vulnerable participants;
-
A safe, friendly, and comfortable "3rd Space" -- a gathering space for people to meet and to connect with life-giving community with low barriers;
-
The "Pay-it-Forward" Programme, funded by donations, to provide coffee and food to anyone in need when they need it.
Hope House Barrie
Sober Living: Transitional Housing for Men.
Operating from the fundamental principle that "the opposite of addiction and poverty is connection and community", we introduce marginalized and vulnerable men into community. We individually case-manage each resident as needed.

If YOU Need Help.
We are a Community, and not a social service agency. So we invite you into relationship in community with us.
Please do not call or message us asking for assistance. Please come in person at one of our programme times. We're inviting you into community, because the opposite of poverty is connection.
